I’ve been practicing a few of the list-building strategies I’ve read as a Copyblogger subscriber as well as from other experts. I use the Aweber service, though am frustrated by it. I’ve “lost” over half of the audience I had when changed to Aweber from OneShoppingCart.com’s e-news service because of Aweber’s double-opt-in process. More than half of the people I transferred did not notice that they had to “confirm” their subscription. I asked several such folks when I saw them at networking events what it was about my newsletters that was no longer of interest to them and they universally said, “Oh, I still want your newsletter. You just stopped sending them.” I hadn’t stopped sending them. I just switched systems and they didn’t realize they had to take a second action after they signed up at my new site. Each time I get e-mail addresses at training events (on response postcards because they don’t have Internet access), I “lose” at least half the people I manually enter because of double-opt-in required. I sure hope you talk a little about how to get through (or past) the double-opt-in in your session. I’m signing up!
